What you will do

As a Unix Support Engineer, you are responsible for the operational management and support of Unix-based systems within our ICT environment. You play a key role in ensuring a stable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure by providing 2nd line support, executing ITIL-based operational tasks, and contributing to project implementations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Support & Incident Management:
    • Provide 2nd line support for Unix servers, resolving incidents and service requests efficiently.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot OS, performance, and connectivity issues related to Unix environments.
    • Escalate complex issues to 3rd line support when necessary, ensuring proper documentation.
    • Work within ITIL frameworks to manage incidents, problems, changes, and service requests.
  • System Management & Maintenance:
    • Perform OS patching, security updates, and compliance checks.
    • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot resource-related issues.
    • Maintain user and access management in Unix environments.
    • Ensure proper backup and disaster recovery procedures are in place.
  • Project Execution & Continuous Improvement:
    • Assist in the deployment and migration of Unix-based systems.
    • Support automation initiatives to streamline operational processes.
    • Participate in testing and implementation of new tools and configurations.
    • Document procedures and share knowledge with team members.

Who you are

  • Experience with Unix/Linux distributions (e.g., RHEL, Ubuntu).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in Unix environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes, including incident, problem, and change management.
  • Knowledge of shell scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible).
  • Understanding of security best practices, including hardening and patch management.
  • Experience with monitoring tools and performance tuning.
  • Excellent communication skills and a service-oriented mindset.
