Silicon Photonics Reliability Researcher

What you will do

Imec is a pioneer in integrated silicon photonics (SiPho), driving innovation in short-reach optical communication through its Optical I/O (OIO) R&D program. Our silicon photonics technology, offered via wafer-level prototype fabrication, targets a wide range of optical interconnectivity applications – from datacenter to high-performance computing and AI accelerators. Reliability assessment is a crucial step in the development flow, where understanding degradation mechanisms can guide process optimization or, when necessary, disqualify otherwise promising device concepts.
As a SiPho Reliability Researcher, you will play a key role in our OIO program by qualifying optical devices, advancing fundamental research and driving innovation in reliability test methodologies.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • You assess the reliability of SiPho devices in the lab and benchmark imec processes
  • You investigate degradation mechanisms and identify failure modes
  • You collaborate closely with integration and device engineers to improve reliability
  • You tailor the electro-optical tests to suit new devices with a focus on efficiency
  • You regularly report progress in internal meetings and imec partner technical weeks
  • You present your results at conferences and publish scientific articles
