Multi-modality retina imaging

Advancing cutting-edge eye imaging technology

Optical imaging technologies play a pivotal role in diagnosing retinal diseases. A range of techniques, from traditional fundus cameras to advanced scanning laser ophthalmoscopy and optical coherence tomography, are employed to guide treatment decisions. At imec, we are developing a next-generation multi-modality retinal imaging system using these methods. To further miniaturize and reduce the cost of the system, we are incorporating photonic integrated circuits to replace traditional bulk components.

As an intern, you will contribute to both the optomechanical design of the system and its subsequent characterization. During the internship, you will gain hands-on experience with various aspects of optical eye imaging, including optical design, system engineering, image formation, data processing, and characterization. This is a unique opportunity to develop interdisciplinary skills and play a key role in advancing cutting-edge retinal imaging technology.
