What you will do

At imec, are at the forefront of innovation in biotech research, specializing in the development and validation of custom ASICs and large-scale data acquisition systems. Our projects are designed to support cutting-edge biotech applications, from early feasibility studies and proof-of-concepts to application demonstrators centered around advanced imec technology and product development for external customers. 

Position Overview: We are seeking a talented and motivated Junior IC Validation and Electronics Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will develop and validate test setups for custom ASICs specifically designed for biotech applications, contributing to the design and implementation of complex data acquisition systems that support groundbreaking research and product development. You will work closely with ASIC designers, ensuring that our test setups are reliable, efficient, and meet the highest standards of performance. 
Key responsibilities will be: 

  • Test Setup Development: Design and implement test environments for high-performance integrated circuits, including developing software for data acquisition and visualization. 
  • PCB Design: Design and layout PCBs, focusing on analog-mixed signal circuits. 
  • Software Development: Write and maintain software for instrument control (LabVIEW), signal analysis (Matlab/Python), and test scripts for system validation (C++). 
  • System Validation: Validate various aspects of data acquisition systems, including hardware, VHDL code, and APIs, ensuring they meet design specifications. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with ASIC designers to define requirements and provide hands-on support during ASIC characterization. 
  • Documentation: Prepare clear and well-structured specification documents, test procedures, and reports.

Who you are

  • Education: Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering or Industrial Engineering. 
  • Technical Skills: 

- Proficient in PCB schematic design and layout using CAD tools. 

- Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design concepts. 

- Experience in test and measurement of electronic circuits. 

- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, C, and C#. 

- Basic knowledge of data analysis and instrument control using Matlab and LabVIEW. 

- Familiarity with mechanical design using CAD tools like AutoCAD or SolidWorks. 

- Basic understanding of hardware description languages like VHDL or Verilog. 

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues efficiently. 
  • Work Structure: Organized, well-structured, and able to document methods and results clearly. 
  • Team Player: Flexible, result-oriented, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Passion for Innovation: Genuine interest in the research and design of electronic systems for biotech applications, with a willingness to develop in various areas of expertise. 
  • Given the international character of imec, good knowledge of (spoken and written) English is a must.
