SEM process Engineer 

What is your mission 

As an SEM Process Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate SEM and X-SEM (cross-sectional SEM) measurements in imec’s pilot fab. You will optimize measurement processes, tool stability, and data analysis, ensuring they meet the needs of our advanced semiconductor R&D programs. 

What you will do

As a SEM engineer your task will be to support the different services within the MECHA team at imec. You will responsible for tools and processes.  

How do you do that? With a diverse range of tasks: 

  • Manage, execute and optimize SEM/X-SEM/FIB measurements to support R&D and process integration. 
  • You have experience in SEM inspections and are up-to date on the current limitations and possibilities of the tools with a focus on semi-conductor materials. 
  • You investigate and optimize FIB and SEM inspections and strive for operation excellence / first time right. 
  • You are responsible for a certain tool set: toolmonitioring, process performance and improvement, detection of deviations, evaluation and analyzing data leading to valid conclusions and corrective actions 
  • Qualify and support new SEM tools, ensuring smooth integration into production. 
  • You are co-owner in achieving the different targets set within the department: ensure quality delivery on time.   
  • You detect potential efficiency and quality risks and take the appropriate action. 
  • You work collaboratively with other professionals (hardware, integration, operations,..) to follow up team performance/queues and improve measurement workflows, hardware and software solutions.  
  • Develop and maintain measurement recipes and Best Known Methods (BKM). 
  • Analyze metrology data to ensure process reliability and consistency. 
  • Lead and contribute to process improvement projects, driving efficiency and innovation.

  • Train engineers and technicians in SEM techniques to enhance knowledge sharing and update the training documents

What are we looking for?  

  • Preferably a master’s degree in materials sciences, physics, chemistry, or a related field or strong hands-on experience with SEM/FIB metrology in semiconductor manufacturing 
  • An eye for detail and a structured approach to process optimization 
  • You are a team player with excellent communication skills  
  • You are prepared to work in full rotating shift system: early, late, and one weekend per month. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot metrology issues 
  • Good technical communication, in verbally and in written form, good analytical skills and desire to learn more about new semiconductor materials and advanced structures are essential for a successful implementation of this role 
  • Experience with metrology automation, scripting, or machine learning is a plus
