What you will do

In this position you manage a part of the Health Research Team in Belgium, existing researchers and biomedical engineers. The team together with researchers and engineers of other AI&Algorithms teams, contributes to the development of innovative sensor solutions, data technologies and digital twins that lead to a healthier life. Besides, we patent the different inventions, publish our results in renowned journals and conferences. 

As a team leader you are responsible for people management as well as scientific contribution within your team. Therefore, you will also have a scientific role.  

Some of the tasks & responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate and coach a group of about 10 health researchers and biomedical engineers.
  • Take care of the individual development of team members in growing their technical competences aligned to the team needs and to ensure continuity of projects.
  • Together with the team, the management of the health research teams, and other stakeholders co-develop, shape and help implement a short and long-term strategic direction for the health research team in Belgium.
  • Retain an overview of the technical skills within the team and anticipate on future sector program and R&D roadmap needs and translate these into the management and development of resources & competences in the team.
  • Oversee the activities, monitor progress and provide support and technical guidance.
  • Create a true team atmosphere where information is actively shared.
  • Interact with internal customers: identify priorities, defend and implement, being responsible for the appearance of the team.
  • Engage in consultation, collaboration and vision development with the management of the Health Research teams. 
  • Initiate and facilitate interactions with other health research teams within imec to exchange best practices and create synergies.
  • Contribute to research activities within the team.

Who you are

  • You have a solid background in health research, eg. biomedical engineering or similar.
  • 5-8 years of relevant working experience after Master degree are required.
  • You like to develop a strategic direction for teams.
  • You can deal with uncertainty and ambiguity, also in decision making.
  • You have a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to coach, guide, manage and inspire a team with a mixed experience level.
  • You want to further develop your people management skills.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills which allow you to be successful in an international high-tech environment. 
  • Flexible in terms of work location. You will primarily work in Ghent and/or Leuven. Occasionally travel to Antwerp, Eindhoven and Wageningen offices may be possible. 
  • You like to engage with both internal and external stakeholders and you do this with a certain flair and positive attitude. 
  • You have a passion for innovations, and you enjoy to have a task in the projects as well. 
  • You communicate effectively in English. You can translate your vision into tangible results.
