Student project: BLE Channel Sounding for RF Localization
A real-time localization system that demonstrates the strengths of RF phase-based Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Channel Sournding (CS) for robust, sustainable, and accurate indoor positioning.
What you will do
Study, design and implement a BLE CS based real-time localization service (RTLS)system:
- Integrate BLE RF localization into a unified framework for the reference node, where the sensor data (humidity, pressure, temperature etc) is send using BLE. Develop firmware for the nRF52840 to perform BLE channel sounding and process angle-of-arrival (AoA) and/or phase-based ranging data.
- Real-Time Localization Algorithm Development: Implement localization algorithms for BLE (multi-lateration or AoA-based), ensure low-latency processing to achieve real-time localization performance.
- Hardware Integration and Deployment: Set up BLE anchors using Nordic nRF54 evaluation kits.
- Experimental Validation and Benchmarking: Conduct localization experiments in various indoor environments at Imec-NL with static and dynamic conditions, and evaluate the improvements in robustness, accuracy and precision again other available wireless distance measurement algorithms. Measure the system’s performance in terms of localization error, latency, and energy efficiency.
