As part of our ambition, we are establishing a specialized chip technology pilot line in Malaga (Spain). This new innovation facility intends to complement imec’s existing 300mm advanced CMOS process line in Leuven, Belgium, with new 300mm processes developments and the introduction of new materials. The new facility aims to answer the industry’s need for R&D, prototyping and pave the road to the manufacturing of promising, new technologies to drive new applications in health care, life sciences, photonics, augmented and virtual reality, precision sensing, ...  
Are you excited about the opportunity to be a pioneer in constructing Spain's first 300mm cleanroom? We're looking for an Mechanical Facilities Engineer to join our Engineering team!

What you will do

You will initially work for two years in our Belgium headquarters, collaborating within our FAIN engineering department. After this period, your pioneering journey starts with a relocation to Malaga (Spain), where you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of mechanical installations at our new imec site including a FAB (cleanroom) building and supporting facilities such as warehouses and offices. These installations encompass cooling and heating production and distribution systems, ventilation systems, high-purity water production, and wastewater treatment systems.  
 
As our Mechanical Facilities Engineer, your key responsibilities will be: 

  • Involvement in the design phase: together with the specialized engineers and under the direction of a project manager, you review and challenge proposed concepts, detailed designs and executed works to ensure technical accuracy and optimal operational management. 
  • Maintenance strategy & planning: you will lead an operational team and together develop and implement a maintenance strategy. As part of this strategy, you establish and execute a comprehensive maintenance planning. 
  • KPI Monitoring & problem solving: you define and monitor maintenance KPI’s while analyzing recurring issues and propose effective solutions.

Who you are

  • You have a Master's degree in industrial sciences or engineering sciences. 
  • You can build on at least 3 years of relevant experience in a technical position. 
  • Broad knowledge of general building technology (electrical engineering, automation,...) or specialized technical knowledge of one or more of the following installations, is an added value: cooling and heating production and distribution installations (chillers, heat pumps, cooling towers,…), ventilation installations (make-up air handling units, fans, ductwork, …), high purity water production and waste water installations (reverse osmose, ultra filtration, physico-chemical treatment). 
  • You dare to take initiative and take ownership of your tasks while being an integral part of a team. 
  • You have an open and clear communication style, both within the organisation and with external partners 
  • You absorb and document knowledge like no other and attach importance to quality in documentation. 
  • You are flexible to relocate to Malaga (Spain), after an initial 2-year period in Belgium. 
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required, along with a good command of English.
