Researcher – Food Technology 

Driving Sustainable Innovations in Food Production and Consumption. 

 
How food is produced and consumed by modern society is no longer sustainable. Therefore, transitions within the food domain are needed. At OnePlanet Research Center we are growing our food research line which aims to develop sensing and digital solutions to accelerate these transitions. Our aim is to create innovations that accelerate the protein transition and reduce food losses. As a Researcher – Food Technology, you will be playing a central role in the creation of these innovations. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of food scientists, sensing experts, chemists, and device developers.  

What you will do

We need you as a Researcher - Food Technology to be part of our multidisciplinary team to: 

  • Translate domain knowledge into technical solutions and develop sustainable applications for industries. 
  • Lead projects in various food related topics. Work closely with the sensor development team to create new sensing technologies. 
  • Design experiments, coordinate or perform measurements, perform data analysis on acquired data sets validate devices in test environments in collaboration with the data science team, lab assistant and external partners.
  • Plan project activities and adjust the planning according to progress and priorities.  
  • Maintain and manage a comprehensive understanding of the domain knowledge related to the topic you will work on. 
  • Share domain knowledge with other OnePlanet teams and in technical discussions with external partners. 
  • Report the scientific results internally, to customers, and disseminate them externally as inventions or (scientific) publications.

Who you are

  • Possess a broad skillset and enjoy expanding your horizons, demonstrating quick learning abilities and a keen interest in acquiring new skills and competencies. 
  • Has a Ph.D. degree in food technology/engineering/science, bioprocessing, with significant research experience. Having industry experience is a big plus. 
  • Experience with project management and stakeholder management.  
  • Able to deal with ambiguity in an uncertain research process. You see changes as an opportunity to learn and grow and adapt the research course considering boundary conditions and resources at hand. 
  • Able to take initiative and responsibility for team’s success, which means thinking pro-actively, working independently and having a creative and solving problem attitude are attributes that define yourself. 
  • Tasks will require a generalist attitude. Highlight any experience with the following in your cover letter or CV *: food safety, image recognition, food industry, stakeholder management, microalgae, fermentation or other bioprocessing reactors, sensors, chemometrics, modeling and digital twin. 
  • Your communication skills in English (written and spoken) are excellent.
