Enabling intelligent communication strategies through biotic communication
Biotic communication refers to the ways living organism communicate with each other through various signals, cues, and interactions within an ecosystem. As nanoscale devices advance, integrating biological processes and computing systems has become critical to enable efficient, energy-conscious communication, particularly in areas inaccessible to traditional electromagnetic systems. The goal of this PhD research is to build a system design and develop an integrated (bio-inspired) communication network by investigating biotic communication models, signal transmission mechanisms, and information particles, along with their interactions (e.g., diffusion and flow-based communication) in complex environments. This research will focus on enhancing the robustness, energy efficiency, and overall performance of biotic computing systems, using key metrics like reliability, scalability, latency, and energy consumption to evaluate system improvements. The PhD candidate will be part of a large research group at IMEC working on wireless connectivity solutions with topics such as Sustainable Intelligent Systems and Joint Communication and Sensing. You will have the unique opportunity to present your research at conferences and publish in top-level journals.
